Big Cat Rescue - Ocelot

Description

Here's a shot of an Ocelot named Sultan.

Here is one of many shots that I took during a tour of "Big Cat Rescue" in Tampa, FL. I was amazed at the beauty of some of these big cats. The cost was only $20 for an hour and a half tour but I will be going back later this year on a photo expedition there for another $50 or so.

Big Cat Rescue is a not for profit organization that rescue's big cats that have either been kept as pets (not a good idea when they get over 400lbs), side show acts, in circus acts, etc. It's really a great cause and I'm glad my money is going to be used to help keep these cats safe.

Yeah, the fence is a bummer, but I guess it's also for the animal's own safety. And yeah, they're at least safer than being someone's house pet or a show animal. But probably still not all that happy being in a cage, when their hearts lie in the rainforest. Then again, what would I know about how an animal feels? I suppose I just find it sad that we keep such beautiful wild creatures in cages.
I admire you for donating and being a part of that. I'm thinking about doing something similar at a place near where I am. Hopefully I'll get some nice pictures like this one. Ocelots are one of my favourite animals. The place I'm going to, I think you pay for the care of the big cat for a whole year, or even lifetime, and you can visit it anytime you want, and they teach you how to feed it and stuff. So you basically own this animal, but it stays at the preserve. It sounded really cool. But you have to be pretty devoted and it costs quite a lot.
Anyway, great shot, hopefully you'll get more if you do the photo expedition. :D
